WHY DOES JESUS CALL DISCIPLES TO HIMSELF (MARK 3:13-18)

Gospel of Mark, discipleship

Do you think there is a difference between being a believer and being a disciple of Christ?
13 And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. 14 And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach 15 and have authority to cast out demons. 16 He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); 17 James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder);18 Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot,[a] 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
Jesus went up on the mountain and called for those He wanted—The image of the ‘mountain’ would have brought Moses to mind for Mark’s Jewish readers. It was on the mountain that God called, revealed Himself, and gave the Ten Commandments to Moses.

WHAT DOES THE CLEANSING OF THE LEPER REVEAL ABOUT JESUS? (MARK 1:35-45)

Do you believe that the Lord has the power to heal today?

When Jesus casted the demon out of a man in the synagogue (Mark 1:25-35), we saw that Jesus demonstrated his authoritative power over demonic realm through the casting out of a demon in synagogue. Today, we are going to take a look at a unique healing, that will further demonstrate Jesus’ authority as the Son of God.

JESUS VS. A DEMON POSSESSED MAN: WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THAT? (MARK 1:21-34)

Do you know the active authority of Jesus the Son of God in your life?

Today we are going to look at the Gospel of Mark and see how Jesus began draw followers to himself, and validate his ministry as the Son of God. Notice the irony that Mark begins to develop as everyone tries to figure out who he is.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FOLLOW JESUS? (MARK 1:16-20)

What does it mean to follow Jesus?
Last Friday I met a guy while waiting for a table at a restaurant. He asked me, "Which team are you following to the Super Bowl?" I replied, "I don't follow baseball." Then he gave he a strange look. Quickly, I revealed that I was just teasing him. He laughed, and asked, "What sports do you follow?"

I was looking at one of my social media accounts to see who I had been following. To name just a few, I have been following a famous preacher, a local Shakespeare Festival, and then, well I hate to admit it to the whole world, "Elvis Lives." Yes, its out there, I am an Elvis fan. It started way back when I just a kid, I have dragged my wife to the show twice now.

Do you know what it means to follow Jesus? Are you following him closely?

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM JESUS' PREPARATION TO MINISTRY? (MARK 1:9-15)

MARK 1:9-15, GOSPEL OF MARK

My first pastorate was awesome! Now that is not the way my wife Shay remembers it—but it was awesome! The sense of finding out what the Lord had called me to was exciting!  Trying to fill the shoes of an awesome preacher while I was still learning to preach. The pain of watching friends leave the church and the joy watching God bring new friends into the church. Leading the church through a national disaster while trying figure out how to be a pastor…Absolutely amazing!

Everyone has a ministry. What is your ministry? How is the Lord preparing you for that ministry?
